Investing in Spokane's real estate market
Interview with Scot Auble, Jolicoeur & Gentry real estate analysts and appraisers
Is this a good time to buy a house?
"If you live in an apartment, it's a great time, because your mortgage payment will be about what you already pay in rent. But it's never a good time to buy a house if your job is in question. In a recession, that's the other side of the coin."
What is the outlook for investment real estate?
"This is an opportune time to invest in downtown Spokane, because it's changing, and that's when you want to invest -- at the beginning of the change."
What would you avoid investing in?
"The industrial market is far riskier right now. You can buy cheap because the manufacturing sector is weak. But you don't know how fast it's going to turn around. Will it be a two-year climb to the top, or 10 years?"
How would you recommend investing $250,000?
"Buying property that is on a long-term lease to a good tenant is a great investment for anyone in Spokane, Post Falls or Coeur d'Alene. Apartment buildings have been very popular investments, too, because people understand them, and people will always have to live somewhere."
